Fish & Chips: The Tastiest in Galway

I’m a massive lover of fish and chips. This post may not be for everyone (my boyfriend included- sorry who doesn’t enjoy a wee bit of cod and chips?) Unless you’re a vegan or highly allergic, don’t diss it until you’ve tried it! Galway is renowned for some of its delicious spots, and with Summer en route, there’s nothing better than sitting outside with a takeaway fish and chips in one hand, and a beer in the other. Here are some of the best places to eat!

McDonaghs Fish & Chips

This is the most popular spot by demand from both locals and tourists in Galway. Located on Quay Street, this fabulous little spot is the perfect place to dine on a sunny day. Not only do they make incredible fresh battered cod, but their chips are the talk of the town- that’s not an exaggeration.

Another popular takeaway selling fish and chips, is Hooked, which is located off Domnick Street (near the Roisin Dubh, kind of). This spot is handy for those bopping in to town on a Summery day to relax by the Spanish Arch. Their chips are no McDonaghs, but they’re still divine and their battered cod is out of this world.

Páidraicín’s Seafood Bar & Restaurant

Although a little bit out of the way- out back Furbo, Páidraicíns is well worth the journey! Located just on the outskirts of Spiddal, this spot cooks up all things fish, including the most amazing fish and chips. Sit outside and enjoy the ambiance & take in the beautiful scenic view of Clare on a Sunny day.

O’Gradys On The Pier

Once again, a spot that may not suit everyone as it’s a little bit out of the way, but with promising tastes, is O’Gradys. This beautiful spot is located in the centre of Barna, overlooking Galway bay and Barna’s beautiful pier. Their fish and chips are fresh and mouthwatering all the same!

Moran’s Oyster Cottage

Moran’s on the weir, more famously known, is located in Kilcolgan, which is quite the journey outside of Galway’s city centre, but the views are remarkable. This little spot is famous for its fish, not just cod and chips, but for its delicious tasting chowders and unique Oysters. I love this spot as it’s truly in the middle of nowhere, it’s great for those looking to go somewhere off the beaten track!

These are my top 5 favourite places. There are plenty of places that will wow you with their fish and chips, but this lot stand out by a mile!
